The Road

walkingaway.jpg

travelin fast down a dirt highway
speed has little value
and time is of no consequence

forgotten without explanation
the white center line evaporates
the straight without curves
grace of nameless horizons
blooming ahead

compliance meets momentary wonder
dawn at light
sunsets roasted orange
dusk decorated in gray
giving way to brilliant stars
chatting as a cool breeze
against the trees

destination challenges the wheels
purpose a pleasant companion
aretha belts a smooth song
as miles converge forward and behind

the resilence of the journey
gathers feathers of gladness and glee
as a blanket gives warmth and comfort

the drifter agrees in a nod
passing shadowed glance he sees
offers his silent footprints
this dirt road offers
freedom’s slow pace
from the restless beating
of life fleeing too fast
